Damian Robert Nesta “Jr. Gong” Marley was born 21 July 1978 in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a Jamaican reggae artist. Damian Marley is the youngest son of reggae musician Bob Marley. Damian Marley was 2 years old when his father died; he is the only child born to Bob Marley and Cindy Breakspeare, Cindy Breakspeare was Miss World 1976. Damian Marley nickname Junior Gong or Jr. Gong is derived from his father’s nickname of Tuff Gong. Damian has been performing since the age of 13 also being known as Jr. Gong Gongzilla. Damian Marley is biracial or multiracial. His mother Cindy Breakspeare was born in Toronto, Canada, to a Jamaican father, Louis Breakspeare, who was a British-Jamaican of multiracial ancestry, and a White Canadian mother of British origin, Marguerite Cochrane. She moved to Jamaica when she was four years old, and attended the Immaculate Conception Preparatory School. As a teenager she participated in beauty pageants, including Miss Jamaica Body Beautiful and Miss Universe Bikini. His father Bob Marley was born to Norval Marley was a white Jamaican originally from Sussex, England, whose family claimed Syrian Jewish origins. Norval claimed to have been a captain in the Royal Marines; at the time of his marriage to Cedella Booker (Bob Marley mother and Danian Marley`s grandmother) , an Afro-Jamaican. Dax Vernon, musically known as Dax Lion, is a Jamaican-born music artist and songwriter. Dax Lion was born Dax Vernon on August 11, 1988 in Kingston, Jamaica. He used the name Lion at the end of his name because the word lion and term lion in the Rastafarian religion which he denotes is synonymous with the word lion. His environment was infused with the rich, musical roots of his hometown in Kingston from a young age. At age 13, he began writing. The distinct sound of Reggae fueled a musical passion within the young artist that lay dormant until he recorded his first song, “Gas Pon It” in 2009. After receiving positive feedback from his peers, he realized a connection had been found. Dax Lion crafted his songwriting skills while tuning in to some of his musical influences like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Stephen Marley, Damian Marley, Michael Jackson to name a few. In 2012, he released his first EP, GWAN NATTY featuring tracks such as, Mr. Poverty, Final Confrontation, Gwan Natty, and Reggae Jam Jam, which all received airplay on radio stations throughout Jamaica. After releasing the EP, Dax Lion made appearances on numerous festivals and shows like, Bob Marley’s People’s Festival in Wilmington, Delaware, and began touring in the United States and Canada playing with a live band. Gaining attention, Dax Lion grabbed the interest of major Reggae media outlets, most notably, the Jamaica Observer, reporting his artistic style as “clawing away at negativity”.
