Mykal Somer was born in St.Kitts in the village of Half Way Tree in the 1970`s. He went to the Basseterre Senior High School. His name can also be mistakenly spelled Michael Summers, Michael Summer or Mikail Summer. Mykal Somer notes that the musical lyrics of the Bob Marley and Lucky Dube inspired him. Mykal Somer discovered he had a passion in singing and songwriting and eventually produced his songs. After honing his skills, his first album Element of Surprise was born under his label Somer Music Group in 2005. It garnered quite a bit of recognition on the reggae scene due to its substance and creativity. No stranger to the music industry, Mykal Somer has performed alongside and has shared the stage with the likes of the legendary Third World Band , Roots Reggae Messenger Luciano, Reggae singing sensation Jah Cure, Messenjah Selah, & Joseph Israel to name a few. In addition he worked briefly with renowned saxophonist, composer & producer Dean FrasierWith fans across North America, Europe and the Caribbean, Mykal Somer continues to steadily grow his fan base. In 2012 the creation of tracks such as ‘Secret Admirer” gave him more light in the music world. Features with Mykal Somer and Travis B of Woven Roots, backed by a heavy and infectious reggae soul beat where the instruments rocks to the core is a crowd favourite.
